The triangle and wool wall hanging have come together creating an open triangle wall hanging. I start with a big plank of wood breaking it down, ripping it into thin strips and mitering angles to create the v shape frame. I use my own stain, en ebonizer, to bring out the natural colors of the wood. It is then finished with a satin polyurethane.
The wool yarns have been repurposed from previous shows and installations. The wool yarns have been dyed with natural materials, logwood and black walnut. Logwood is a shredded bark comes from the logwood tree. It produces a deep blue color and when an iron mordant is added a rich black hue emerges. Black walnut dye comes from the walnuts dropped from a black walnut tree. The walnuts have been broken down (a lot of hard work graciously done by my father) and simmered to release the deep brown color. When an iron mordant is added it turns to a deep black brown hue.
When dyeing wool yarns, I start with a loose plan that breaks into a spontaneous intuition of blending both dyes, a dance between the pots of dye. The result is a rich blend of hues. I then pair the right hue with the perfect wood compliment creating a unique wall hanging that will integrate perfectly into any interior.
